Overview

Nairobi Snake Park was opened in January 1961 to promote and preserve the snakes and reptiles that are found in Kenya. The snake park was first located at national museum, but later the museum trustees acquired land in front of the museum to establish a reserve live snakes. The Nairobi Snake Park is a major public attraction locally and internationally where other marine and freshwater fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and small mammals, as well as invertebrates, such as Mombasa train millipede, freshwater prawn, giant snail, crayfish, baboon spider and many other species are also reserved. There are Community-based programs that give education on aquarium fish and reptiles, snake removal from homes, education to reduce snake bites and snake identification process. The grounds are also good sites for picnic as it is set in a quiet and serene environment.
