Also you get to witness the spectacular annual migration where millions of wildebeests, zebras, and the gazelles migrate from the Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and the crocodile ravaged Mara River to reach Masai Mara grazing fields beginning late June through September/October depending on the rains. Maasai Mara has the largest population of animals in Kenya, including over 400 bird species and other animals like bat eared fox, spotted hyena, impala, elephants, hippos, grey jackals etc.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is home to flocks of both greater and lesser flamingos and other endangered animal species, like the black and white rhino not forgetting the other diverse bird population, as well as members of the big five apart from the elephant. You also get to enjoy the attractive range of wooded and bush grassland round the lake offering a wide ecological diversity. One can have nature walks to register some piece of mind.

Samburu National Reserve

Samburu national reserve consists of narrow riverine woodland of dwarf palm and acacia trees with, grassland, and scrubland. Most of the big five are found here from the famous lion, leopards, buffalo, cheetahs, hippos to the giraffe and a thriving bird population. Due to the river Ewaso Nyiro that cuts into the reserve supporting a big population of wild animals including the crocodile, this reserve has become a major tourist destination. This reserve has its fame from the unique Grevy’szebra, long neck gerenuk, Beisaoryx and reticulated giraffe. Another source of its fame is due to the movie “Born Free” and also as one of the places where the conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness. Birdlife is prolific at Samburu National Reserve, boasting over 350 different species of bird including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and others.
