Day 1Nairobi / Maasai Mara Reserve
You will be welcomed by the Makiland Tours representative who will brief you about the tour after which you will head for Maasai Mara, your dream destination. You will pass by Rift Valley View Point where you will stop briefly and take a good view of the Rift Valley and then carry on to Mara. In Mara you will have your lunch and a short cat nap. You will then go for an afternoon game drive in the reserve before retiring to camp /lodge.
Day 2Maasai Mara Reserve - Full Day
The full day of unlimited game drive in this famous destination gives a Makilands visitor memorable encounter with all members of the Big Five and many other animal species including the wildebeest, hartebeest, impala and gazelle, and the rare roan antelope with long swept back horns.
Along the Mara River you will marvel at the massive hippos and crocodiles lazily basking along the river banks. You may opt for an early morning hot-air balloon safari at an additional cost for approximately 45 minutes to fly over the Mara for a thrilling bird’s eye view followed by a memorable champagne breakfast in the bush!
Day 3Maasai Mara / Lake Nakuru National Park
You will have an early morning game drive in the reserve then return for breakfast in the lodge/camp. Depart for Lake Nakuru national park arriving on time for lunch. Enjoy a short rest and then embark on an enjoyable afternoon game drive in the park. Lake Nakuru runs a successful conservation site for black and white rhinos and also hosts thousands of flamingos and other birds.
Other animals include the buffalo, giraffe, lion and the elusive leopard. View-points which are Lion hill, Baboon cliff and Out of Africa, will enable you take photographs worth remembering of the park from the vantage view point. You will have your meals and overnight stay at camp or lodge.
Day 4Lake Nakuru / Samburu National Reserve
You will start the day with a memorable early morning game drive in the park. You will then have breakfast after which you will drive out towards Samburu National Park. On the way you will stop briefly by the Thompson Falls then carry on, through the equator to Samburu. On arrival you will take lunch in the camp/lodge and on taking a short rest you will enjoy late afternoon game drives in the park.
Day 5Samburu National Reserve - Full Day
Experience early morning and afternoon game drives in the scenic Samburu national park in search of the rare Samburu species like the reticulated giraffe, grevy's zebra, the long necked gerenuk antelopes, beisaoryx, and blue flanked Somali ostrich. Others include vulturine guinea fowl, where lions, leopards and elephants are also residents with plenty of other plains game. Optional visit to the Samburu villages are also thrilling for a real African adventure in this exciting wilderness.
Day 6Samburu / Nairobi
You will start the day by enjoying some early morning game drives. After a delectable breakfast you will depart for Nairobi. On arrival you will have lunch and enjoy an expedition of the city and later transfer to Hotel/ Airport.
Maasai Mara Game Reserve
This is the most famous and most visited game reserve in Kenya best known for its abundant number of its wildlife. Made famous by the film “Out of Africa” which was shot here, this memorable tour takes you face to face for an encounter with big five which include elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino. Also you get to witness the spectacular annual migration where millions of wildebeests, zebras, and the gazelles migrate from the Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and the crocodile ravaged Mara River to reach Masai Mara grazing fields beginning late June through September/October depending on the rains. Maasai Mara has the largest population of animals in Kenya, including over 400 bird species and other animals like bat eared fox, spotted hyena, impala, elephants, hippos, grey jackals etc.
Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National Park is home to flocks of both greater and lesser flamingos and other endangered animal species, like the black and white rhino not forgetting the other diverse bird population, as well as members of the big five apart from the elephant. You also get to enjoy the attractive range of wooded and bush grassland round the lake offering a wide ecological diversity. One can have nature walks to register some piece of mind.
Samburu National Reserve
Samburu national reserve consists of narrow riverine woodland of dwarf palm and acacia trees with, grassland, and scrubland. Most of the big five are found here from the famous lion, leopards, buffalo, cheetahs, hippos to the giraffe and a thriving bird population. Due to the river Ewaso Nyiro that cuts into the reserve supporting a big population of wild animals including the crocodile, this reserve has become a major tourist destination. This reserve has its fame from the unique Grevy’szebra, long neck gerenuk, Beisaoryx and reticulated giraffe. Another source of its fame is due to the movie “Born Free” and also as one of the places where the conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness. Birdlife is prolific at Samburu National Reserve, boasting over 350 different species of bird including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and others.
