Day 1Mombasa / Tsavo East National Park.
You will be welcomed for the safari by Makiland Tours Representative and from the beach hotel /Airport you will head for Tsavo East National park through the Bachuma gate. On arrival you will be served lunch and after a short cat nap you will enjoy afternoon game drive. You will visit the beautiful Aruba Dam to experience a lifetime encounter with a wide variety of game.
Tsavo East is also famous for fascinating sceneries like the dust red elephant weltering washing each other with sprays of waters of the Galana River, the 300 km long Yatta Plateau which is the longest lava flow in the world and large herds of mammals and predators which include elephants ,buffalo, rhino waterbucks , lesser Kudu ,leopard ,lion, cheetah, hippo, crocodile and also over 500 recorded bird species are thrilling to watch . You will have your meals and overnight stay at camp or lodge.
Day 2Tsavo west National Park / Amboseli National Park.
After an early morning breakfast you will proceed for a thrilling game drive in Tsavo west taking you to Mzima Springs and Chaimu crater. The Big Five abundantly roam this park, but the hippo and crocodile infested Mzima Springs steal the show by offering the park's most exciting and memorable scenery.
Magnificent views of the huge animals through a circular underwater viewing chamber built at the end of a short pier leaves a makilands tour guest yearning for more where , you’ll see the memorable swimming prowess of a floating underwater hippo, or the magical display by the massive crocodile in motion, as well as the beautiful parade by the magnificent large fish.
You will then depart for Amboseli National Park and on arrival you will have your lunch and short cat nap before you enjoy the afternoon game drives in this world famous park.
Day 3Amboseli National Park - Full Day
On this day you get to enjoy full day game drives. You will have a striking view of the park with elephants floating in the beautiful swamps and the pleasant views of the imposing and majestic Mt Kilimanjaro hovering above Amboseli. During your game drive you will encounter Cape buffalo, hyena, impala and several bird species including the kori bastards, ostrich, secretary birds etc.
Huge files of several elephant families with babies hurrying to keep up with their mothers while others straggle as they take their first steps across the savannah make for big fascinating stories both early morning and at dusk. You will have your meals and overnight stay at camp or lodge.
Day 4Amboseli National Park / Saltlick Sanctuary.
The waters that run off Mount Kilimanjaro enable the apparently dry Amboseli, Kenya's first game sanctuary to support its huge wildlife population. Africa's greatest mountain hovers high over Amboseli, generally covered by thick clouds but appearing in all its great scenic beauty from time to time with best views witnessed early morning and evening when not cloudy.
You will enjoy early morning pre breakfast game drives to say bye to this iconic gem .After breakfast you will depart for the ever exciting Saltlick sanctuary for excellent game viewing arriving in time for lunch. After checking in, you will have your lunch and there after you will enjoy afternoon game drives with an excellent night game viewing experience through observatory chamber in the specially done bunkers next to the floodlit water hole.
Day 5Saltlick Sanctuary / Mombasa.
You will begin this day with an early morning game drive. On taking breakfast and resting for short time you will head for Mombasa where arrival is anticipated in the afternoon for lunch. You will then move out with a game drive en route as you transfer to your Beach Hotel.
Upon arrival you will be checked in to your dream beach hotel where you will enjoy dinner and overnight stay.
This exciting day in Mombasa is spent enjoying optional beach activities and hotel facilities at leisure.
You will have a Mombasa city tour and later you will transfer to the Airport.
Drained by the Tsavo and Galana rivers, the Tsavo East National Park is Kenya's largest National Park covering an area of 11,700sq kms At the Galana River great sceneries are witnessed where the elephants come to spray, roll and wallow one another, the kind of a sight that is marvelous and thrilling to watch.
While in Tsavo East marvel at the longest lava flow Yatta plateau – It is about 290Km long and is one of the world’s longest lava flows. Other attractions include: Lugards falls on the Galana River which is not a true falls but a series of rapids. Visitors can walk down to the river to view the rapids. Mudanda rock – The 1.6Km long rock outcrop has a dam at the base where animals converge to quench their thirst. Visitors can walk along the rock and enjoy a cool breeze as well as view wildlife drinking the base.
Aruba Dam - was built in 1952 across the Voi River.
Tsavo West National Park
It is located in South Eastern Kenya, inland from Mombasa, at an altitude ranging between 200 - 1000m. The park is a vast expanse of open savanna from Mtito Andei, along the Mombasa-Nairobi road and south to the Tanzanian border.Tsavo West has a rolling volcanic landscape with more varied habitat than the neighbor Tsavo east. Tsavo West National Park was established in 1948 and is bordered by Taita Hills. It covers a total area of 9065 sq kms and hosts a wide variety of wildlife species and over 150 bird species.
There are numerous rocky outcrops and ridges and part of the park, towards the Chyulu Hills, is of recent volcanic origin with lava flows and ash cones including the Shetani lava flow which consists of caves, three craters, basalt flows and lava splashes, an example of a recent volcano. In the far south western corner on the Kenya Tanzania border is Lake Jipe, part of which is in the park. This very attractive lake is fed by runoff from Mt. Kilimanjaro and the North Pare mountains. At Mzima Springs, in the North of the park, water that has filtered underground from the Chyulu Hills gushes from below a lava ridge into a series of clear pools. Temperature ranges from 20 - 30º C and rainfall from 200mm - 700mm. Two ran seasons: Long rains - March/April & Short rains - Nov/December.
The main access routes are through Chyulu Gate from Amboseli and Mtito Andei Gate from Nairobi (240 km) and Mombasa. Visitors from Mombasa also use Tsavo Gate near Manyani. The park can also be reached via Taveta-Voi road through Maktau, Ziwani and Jipe gates.
Amboseli National Park
Amboseli meaning ‘salty dust’ in Maasai has very large herds of elephants. There one can have a view at the five different habitats ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulphur springs, the savannah and woodlands. One can also have an experience of the authentic famous culture of the Maasai.
This is a privately owned wildlife sanctuary established in 1972 by Hilton international. Located in TaitaTaveta county approx. 220 km from Mombasa it covers an area of 28,000 acres (110kmsq).It is adjacent to Tsavo west National park and the Lumo community wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary has two lodges Sarova salt lick and Sarova Taita hills Game lodge both under Sarova group of hotels. It is home to huge herds of African bush elephants, leopards, lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck, Thompson’s gazelle, lesser kudu, dik-dik and several species of smaller plains games and birds. While at Sarova salt lick lodges one can view animals while at the bar or lounge through the balconies and the specially built underground observatory chamber next to the water hole. Animals come here to quench their thirst in the day or night.
